Birth and Death Certificates

Birth Certificates

What is a birth certificate?

Some hospitals or physicians may provide new parents a card or certificate to attest to the fact of the birth, however, this is not an official birth certificate.  The only valid certificate is the original certificate on file with the Center for Health Statistics.  “Certified Copies” of the original certificate can be provided only by Local Health Jurisdictions or the Center for Health Statistics.  These are photo static copies certified by the appropriate government official as being true copies of the original document and fulfill legal requirements.

How to get a birth certificate:

Lincoln County Health Department provides copies of  “Certified Birth Certificates” of people born in the state of Washington from the year 1921 to the present.  The cost is $25.00 and can be paid for with cash, local check, money order or credit card. Credit card payments incur at a minimum $2.50 fee; please contact us with questions about fees. There is an additional $3.00 handling fee per certificate for mailed birth certificates. Available Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Copies of birth certificates for births that occurred prior to 1922 can be requested from the Center for Health Statistics at (360) 236-4300 or on the website at the Department of Health.
