Groundwater Monitoring in WRIA 53

WRIA 53 Minutes Op. Procedures Phase II GW Mapping GW Monitor Surface Water DRAFT WRATS

Lincoln County and the WRIA 53 Planning Unit, a group comprised of local landowners, water purveyors, and local agencies, has received grant funding to conduct a groundwater monitoring program for WRIA 53.  This study will be conducted to map the depth to groundwater within the aquifers in the watershed.  The goal of the program will be to measure depth to groundwater in the three identified groundwater systems in the watershed: the basalt aquifers, the granite aquifers, and the unconfined sand & gravel aquifers.  A representation of both deep and shallow wells is sought.  The WRIA 53 Planning Unit is seeking this information for our study of the aquifer systems.  This study is not being conducted for any compliance efforts, and no water quality monitoring will be conducted.

Measurements will be taken once every three months.  The monitoring program is very limited and only requires the field technician to lower an electronic monitoring probe into your well for less than one minute.  Time on your property would be less than 10-minutes per monitoring event.  Wells which do not have any pumps in them are preferred; however, we can monitor the depth to water in wells currently withdrawing water.  Well logs and/or construction diagrams on the wells would also be very helpful.  Our goal is to measure water levels in 50 to 75 wells throughout the watershed.

If your well is within the WRIA 53 boundaries (see map) and would like to participate in this important monitoring program, or have any informational questions, please contact:

Gene St.Godard, WRIA 53 facilitator: stgod@comcast.net or 509-953-9395.

Once again, we would like to encourage you to participate in this monitoring program.  All data collected will be shared with the owners of the groundwater well.

WRIA 53 Planning Unit meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Lincoln County Public Works Building in Davenport.  Information on the Planning Unit can be found at our web site:  http://www.co.lincoln.wa.us/planning/wria53/default.htm.  The WRIA Planning Unit is a local group of landowners and agencies.  If you would like to participate and become a member of the group, or be added to the planning distribution list, contact Gene or Courtney at the addresses provided above.  Our group meets monthly and also organizes presentations on the water resources issues which affect us all in our watershed.
